Jim Mercer is an industry veteran of the Convenience Store and Petroleum industry, bringing over 40 years of experience to the helm of NEP. Mercer began his career as a developer and owner of a 79 unit C-Store chain, which opened with only 3 stores in 1968. As an entrepreneur and early adopter of technology, his chain of stores was the first to introduce scanning in the United States and as a result of working with McKinney and Company and in conjunction with Pepsi Cola/Frito Lay, developed strategies to increase store sales with buying information collected from scanned data. Sales increased by 40% per customer within nine months and the company, then called Bonfare Foods continued to grow year after year until Mercer sold his company to Stewarts Ice Cream Company in 1994. Mercer remains as an advisor to the president of the now 330 store chain in New York. |

Jim Mercer also serves on the boards of several companies and is currently writing a series of articles for magazines, newspapers and journals within the industry on subjects such as labor management, food service, business development and market leadership. As a leading senior consultant, he understands the major challenges CEOs and Presidents face today in regards to recruiting qualified industry professionals and meets frequently one on one with them to develop solutions along with succession planning.

Rick Bower, EdD

Dr. Rick Bower comes to NEP with a unique set of skills and abilities. A decorated career military officer, his assignments varied from combat operations, to long range planning and budgeting, to recruiting, and research and development. After his retirement from military service, he spent seven years in retail sales and marketing where he continued to garner awards and recognition.
He is also a former university professor of organizational dynamics, leadership, and management, and is highly experienced in the areas of human resources and employment law. Rick is a certified career counselor with advanced degrees in psychology, counseling, and administration. In addition to his duties as a search consultant, he is responsible for all of NEP's corporate training and continuing education.
